Gray's Court in York Wedding / Helen & Gavin
Why get up so early on the day of a wedding to head up North I hear you ask? A big weekend in the horse racing calendar is the answer, with nearly every hotel room in York booked! So we hit the road with the weather clearly in our favour, heading to what we hoped would be a knockout wedding. York is a pretty city with tons of heritage that intensifies the closer you get to the centre. So while Marco headed off to Leeds to photograph Gavin getting ready at their home, I made a bee line for Gray’s Court to start the day with Helen. Look at the first photograph in the blog and you’ll get a great idea of the setting; the three windows on the second floor of the roundhouse is where Helen got ready, and yep, to finish off, that is the Minster presenting itself as a grand backdrop. Stunning. Enough about the place, what about the couple. Helen, calm yet super excited was surrounded by Mum, brother and bridesmaids, all paying attention to detail without a stress in sight. Over in Leeds, Gavin and best man readied themselves amidst the fun and laughter of his family before setting off for the short journey to York.
Finally, with everyone on site the day really started to take shape. Could bride and groom match these surroundings? You bet they could! Gavin took everything in his stride and looked dapper as he socialised cooly with arriving guests. Hair and make up done, Helen slipped on a drop-dead gorgeous Lazaro dress and emerged as a true picture of bridal beauty. With guests now seated in the sunshine, the outdoor service proceeded with a live acoustic set, lovely readings, the exchange of rings and confetti. Bonkers to see tourists peering down on this drama from the ancient walls of the city! What followed was mingling, some detail work and stealing bride, groom and the bridal party away to make the most of the surroundings. Check out those cobbled streets! Guests now seated enjoying speeches, tears, laughter, love, friendship . . . and dinner. We couldn’t resist and were so pleased that after dinner Helen and Gavin agreed to give us a bit more time to photograph up on the ancient wall. Sneaky feeling they simply enjoyed having those 20 minutes alone together. Following the cutting of the cake, a live music set started up, cue the first dance and then crikey did the party kick off!!
We had a fantastic time, photographing a top couple in and around a great location. You both perfectly balanced tenderness and time for each other with fun and laughter for family and friends. Thank you for letting us share that with you and we wish you a lifetime of happiness.
Must just put a massive shout out in here to the fantastic suppliers whom we had the joy of working alongside and that Helen & Gavin chose for their day;
